I've been going to the same therapist since my mid-20s and she's been a wealth of knowledge and support through the years. Sometimes during my sessions she'll recommend a book that she thinks could help me with what I'm going through or questions I have about certain topics.
Here are 5 books she's recommended over the years.
Whole Brain Child

This book offers "12 Revolutionary Strategies to Nurture Your Child's Developing Mind, Survive Everyday Parenting Struggles, and Help Your Family Thrive." I've heard great things about this book and as a parent to a 3 year old, I'm excited to dive into this book soon.
Radical Acceptance

"Embracing Your Life With the Heart of a Buddha...Drawing on the wisdom of Buddhist teachings, illustrative stories and the transformative power of meditation, Tara guides us in healing the shame and fear that bind our hearts."
I've been listening to this book on my morning walks and it is truly life changing. I've teared up several times listening to it as it is helping me shift some deep-seeded struggles with bigger emotions and shame. She has practical lessons and meditations that we could all benefit from incorporating into our lives.
Like A Mother

"What to read after What to Expect . . . . A badass, feminist, and personal deep-dive into the science and culture of pregnancy and early motherhood that debunks myths and dated assumptions, offering guidance and camaraderie to women navigating one of the biggest and most profound changes in their lives."
Read 5 reasons to go to therapy
This one is super helpful to anyone who is expecting and wants an honest, feminist take on what it's really like to be pregnant. There are so many expectations put on pregnant people and this book looks into some of the myths and rules put on them.
In The Flow

"Dive into 'In the Flo,' a book by Alisa Vitti of FLO Living, and explore a revolutionary approach to women's health and wellness through cycle syncing."
It is amazing to me that I am only learning about cycle syncing now that I'm in my 30s. I highly recommend looking into how your hormones shift throughout the month and how you can harness these ups and downs through following the natural rhythms of your cycle. It's a great way to create a mindful to-do list and honor your body's needs.
Come As You Are

"An essential exploration of why and how women's sexuality works—based on groundbreaking research and brain science—that will radically transform your sex life into one filled with confidence and joy."
This book is a game-changer! As women we deal with so much shame and judgement around our bodies and sexuality. This book gives scientific explanations for how our sexuality really works and takes away some of the pressure society puts on us.
